Synopsis:
With Adam out of town wrapping up business to move and Frank on a long stakeout, Tristan is left to his own devices. He isn’t bored. Tiffany’s encounter with the cult of floating, leather dress wearing pervs leaves her in an altered state that makes her hard to market as an escort. While Tristan and his friends try to sort that out, Sebastian Gris returns looking for another chance to have Tristan bound for his pleasure. Tristan tries to let the arrogant man down gently, but he still can’t take no for an answer. Finally, circumstances force Tristan to accept the invitation. He soon finds himself in a deadly trap. Will his lovers find him in time? Or will his fear of being rude lead to his destruction?
Review:
While Tristan and his friends wax musical on their past tricks and how good or bad they were, they also have to take into account how Sebastian is stalking Tristan for all the wrong reasons. His friends think he's a creep, and Tristan thinks the same way, but he can't seem to shift him. They are right, Sebastian is a strange and creepy man who is too used to people obeying his every command without question. I got the impression he wasn't used to someone like Tristan, who can make men wait for what they desire, and so far he has done that to Sebastian. He takes it in his stride, though, making a real play for him where he works, and asks for his time to have dinner with him.
The fact he scares Tristan should make alarm bells ring in his head when he goes along with what Sebastian plans - to have dinner with him in a location later on. He has no idea what his desires are, but they are bound to be unusual. Adam tells him, with some authority that Sebastian is bad news in other locations where he is banned from exclusive parties in Manhattan for being abusive, but being well known in the area for the wrong reasons doesn't make Tristan flinch - he thinks he's got control of the situation, but is he right?
The reason Sebastian wanted Tristan becomes clear in the dining area of Tony's Stakehouse, Tristan's a vampire and his interest is as dangerous as his smile. I liked the revelations in this part of the story, Tristan likes his stake houses, the company he keeps (usually) and he can eat soup and drink wine, but not eat solid food. He lets Sebastian know about this, and isn't afraid to do so. So far the whole situation seems innocent enough, but as soon as Tristan is alone with him, it might be a case of he could regret his decision.
Kinky goings on, and the dangers involved are what is at the heart of this story, plus the knowledge that Tristan has many friends on hand to help him out when he needs it are factors not normally associated with vampires in popular literature. I enjoyed this as I have the other novels in this series and can't wait for the next one to come along soon.
