Continuing where Evangelion 2.22: You Can (Not) Advance left off, Shinji hopes to be once again reunited with Rei, but in this future incarnation, he cannot find her and the Earth he once knew is in devastation. Confusion and despair rule his mind even though he has to find a way out of such an awful situation.
Evangelion 3.33: You Can (Not) Redo is one of three full length movies that came from the series Neon Genesis Evangelion that became so popular during the mid nineties. As the movies have progressed from the series, so has the animation quality as it is standard drawn artwork combined with the best techincal aspects of computerised animation mixed with some neat special effects. As the series continues from the previous movie, the story seems to have shifted, leaving more questions to be asked about what will eventually happen to Shinji and whether he will ever see Rei again, at least in one of the possible lifetimes.
The animation has a cleaner look from the previous movie, which would be expected, and the development of the characters is a real bonus for any fan of the series. With the story also being somewhat muted, the animation, action, huge mechanized robots and special effects come to the fore with amazing reality. The characters' progressing through the movies is something that has to happen, but some of them only act as filler characters for the others to benefit their progression.
This isn't a movie for fans of anime to just watch, it has a long running arc in it that needs to be understood first right from the beginning, so fans of Evangelion will have a real treat in store for them. This is more for those who want to know what happens to the characters and how the will cope in this setting.
Bonus Material: Clean Opening and Closing Sequences.
Summary:Fans of the original series will enjoy the progression of this latest movie and the development of the characters.
