Rune Balot has been given a second chance at life, but the quality of life depends on your perspective as she is still in great pain from her run-in with the man who killed her. Her memories of that night he left her to die still haunt her memories, and it's not something she can shake.
At the beginning of this movie, Rune is busy fending off an enemy who says Oeufcoque had abandoned him, and she is only saved from harm when her friends come for her. This doesn't end the fight however, as her enemy lands on the craft - but lucky for her, she pumps more bullets into his body before he finally leaves her alone. This gives her time enough to heal, but also lets the viewers find out how she feels and what she thinks of her new life so far. While her body heals, Rune finds friendship with Tweedledee, a guy who is similar to her, but who was made in Paradise rather than the real world.
Rune is known as Dr Easter's client and kept safe there in the compound, but no one expected her to be so determined to get her own way and be taken around the facility. Tweedledee is known as Dee or Twee by different people rather than having a standard all purpose nickname and has an interesting partner in a dolphin who is also gay. At least this anime is as unconventional as I expected it to be. Paradise is a construction made by their God, a professor, originally one of three who wanted his own ideal world where people could life in harmony, at least as long as no one dared to eat the fruit from the tree of life as Eve did in the Bible. Dee's lover tells Rune all about the problems they faced with Paradise, but also the successes that came with it.
Mardock Scramble - The Second Combustion - Director's Cut is a heart-warming tale of hope in a cruel future world where the possibility of life could be endless. Rune spends most of her time in this movie naked, and without the thought that she is being brazen and I suppose it shows that she has been born again in their world even though she can't get her past out of her mind. Dr Face Man tells her all she needs to know of their world and the reasons for how it came to be. Easter and Dee provide her with the reasons to keep on living and be happy that she has trusted friends who can help her. Her hopes of freedom could be shattered as Mr Iron Man is coming for her and knows where she is.

Verdict: Mardock Scramble - The Second Combustion - Director's Cut is a fine second part to the original movie, and packs a hard punch against dystopian culture.
