Yuri Katsuki doesn't make it at the Grand Prix Finals, instead deciding to quit and have time to reflect on what made him lose out as Japan's number one skater. Lucky for him, he has someone waiting in the wings to offer him some well needed help.

Victor Nikiforov is the five-time champion who gives him some guidance as his new coach, putting him back on track for winning gold again, but there may also be another reason for him helping the handsome, young skater out. When almost all is lost for Yuri, Victor plans to bring him out of his flunk only to learn that another Yuri, Yuri Plisetsky wants the Russian to train him too!

This series ranks as on of the most popular anime of this year (look at any social media site and look at what they are talking about) and there are valid reasons for its popularity, namely the sacrifices Victor has made to help Yuri become a hit with the judges.

The story is part of what makes the series so watchable, this and it also mirrors pro-skater, Johnny Weir who encouraged campaigning for LGBTQ progress in the US since he came out at the height of his success. This series puts skating on the map of competitive sports anime, while Haikyuu concentrate on the shonen aspects of anime.

Yuri!!! On Ice is a more light-hearted feeling anime about the setbacks and struggles skaters go through to make good in their chosen career and in an effort to be the best, Yuri has Victor for two reasons; to help him to the top and love him. Yuri and Victor are better people for being together as they can understand their own problems and overcome them.

The story and characters might be a winning combination, but another draw for fans is the animation's fluid grasp of the whole skating process. You see the skaters in the ice and they move as they would in real-life using rotoscoping as a tool producing this major realism. So as I can see, it looks good; it has a good solid plot, characters you can believe in and it has lots of heart where it is needed in such a competitive world.

Summary: Yuri!!! On Ice is a love story with a strong plot, lots of heart and some amazing animation!
