We start season 3 with Episode 38, Smoke Signal where Sasha, Mikasa etc have been chosen as the new Levi Squad, though they have no idea why this is, and what makes them so special. Sasha is up to her old tricks stealing potatoes again, earning her the nickname Potato Girl, while Hange has set up an experiment that could turn the tide of their war on the Titans.
They are using Eren to try and use the Titan hardening ability to their advantage in order to seal the wall, but it will take a lot of time, and they have to be careful not to let any outsiders see what they are up to.
If the Titans aren't enough of a danger to the Levi Squad, there are others, who are human who pose much more of a threat. The Interior Military Police are suspected of torturing and killing Pastor Nick; they believe he has been giving the scouts information they think is classified for them and them alone. When they are confronted by the scouts about this, they are told what they think is a lie; that Pastor Nick has been killed by an unknown assailant who intended to steal his belongings.
Danger lies around every corner, with the Titans this time around taking a back seat as political intrigue around a false king of Trost District that must make way for the true queen in Historia, though when a plot to kidnap her and Eren goes wrong, the Levi Squad must make their move. The main thought that runs through this series of episodes is one of hope, that Levi and co. can survive to see things put right, but a newer threat of Levi's former friend, Kenny who is now working for the Interior Military Police as their paid henchman, and he intends to kill him if he can get the chance.
Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 1 makes an impressive view of aerial attacks and their impact while fighting the Titans, though it is the skill the Levi Squad uses when fighting the Military Police that makes them stand out as seasoned warriors who need to act fast even though the human race could die at any minute. I didn't think this series could get darker, but with the mass starvation, interior politics and intrigue happening, the characters must keep on going no matter what.

Summary: Attack on Titan is all action, danger, stunts and some of the most amazing images of aerial combat ever seen!
