Sully's been used to being the top dog around his friends. The new kid, Nottingham threatens his position as best climber in the village and wonders how well his friends will think of him if he loses against him in the final climb.

Written from Sully's point of view, he takes us through the fun they have had climbing the many trees in their neighbourhood. For them, there are five trees that mattered to them and they have climbed all but one, the Skystabber, named after Sully, this tree even eludes him, so when Nottingham, also an expert climber challenges him to see who can climb the Skystabber first, his reputation is on the line.

As the lead title for August, Keith Gray has written this as the story of teenage boys about to go through the experience of becoming young men and the disappointments that come with it. With over a hundred pages and six chapters, each chapter refers to a tree they have climbed or seeks to climb as they are the "big five" that have nearly defeated them.

As a coming of age story, I found this gripping enough for a second read and would recommend it for a young readers group.
