Previously Luffy's crew had landed on the Sabaody Archipelago in order to find a craftsman who could help them get to Fishman Island. Camie their mermaid friend was captured and to get her back, Nami has to bid for her in a cruel auction where she might not even win.

Nami thinks she has the money but loses out to a richer bidder. Not that this means Camie can't be rescued by Luffy of course. He would like to make an example of those who would hurt his friends. Luffy's bold entrance means she can be saved but without the key to release her collar, she wont have much of a chance to follow them in their escape.

Franky has his own chance to take Camie and run but as Luffy has injured a celestial dragon there will be an admiral coming soon to the archipelago to dispose his brand of justice, putting all the pirates in danger.

There are many scenes in this new collection that fans will have been waiting for. When Luffy punches his foe the scene goes from full colour animation to sketchy pencil to show the intensity of the blows he inflicts. In another a marine loses his head while his body still wonders around and other marines play with his disembodied head. Weird.

One Piece Collection 17 is a good mixture of serious and comical in a bunch of episodes fans will remember for a long while yet. Their crazy antics aren't over and as one of the more long running anime series, I thought Chopper couldn't get any bigger, but does and Luffy can surprise viewers when he's in serious mode, but I was glad he wasn't serious for long. As a connected bunch of episodes, I liked how newer characters fitted in with the plot and how some can't be trusted along the way.

Bonus Material: None.

Summary: Liked it a lot, especially Chopper and Franky's roles in this.
