If you liked Planetes, this will thrill you just as much. In 2199 the human race has been ravaged by an alien race, the Garrulas when the Earth's surface became uninhabitable, the humans were forced to live underground. Then when they thought the human race would be forever lost, their lives may be saved when they get a message from another world. Is it really hope, or just another disappointment?

The damage the Garrulas had done to the planet's surface can be reversed with a device. It can reduce the radiation but there is a sacrifice to be made on their part, they have to rely on the Space Battleship Yamato to aid them in their upcoming battle with the Garrulas.
 

Based on the TV animation Star Blazers, this is the live action science fiction movie fans have been waiting to see for nearly forty years. For the Japanese, this is the most expensive film ever made and knocked Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 off the charts when it was first released in 2011. Space Battleship Yamato is the Japanese equivalent of our Western blockbuster movies Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, and Starship Troopers.
