In this box set of Dragon Ball Z Cell's encounter with Trunks left him almost powerless against him. He had already fought Super Saiyan before, and hadn't come across anyone half as strong as Cell. Everyone was looking to Trunks to be the hero of the day, the fate of the world was in his hands, yet Cell was amazed at his opponent's powers. He could not understand how he could power up at such as short time when he obviously had the advantage. It is then he realises Trunks's true power and that he could have used more force against him if he had wanted to.

Trunks being defiant doesn't answer Cell's question, he runs on guts and determination, and had not thought about it much, he just used his powers and if it didn't work, he would have chosen to fight him in a different way. Cell, it seems is impressed by Trunks, so much so that he decides to hold a martial arts tournament.

Trunks believes that it could be a special Tenkaichi Tournament, but as Cell disappeared without giving him the details, but Trunks and his friend Goku are none the wiser. It isn't long before viewers will notice that Trunks wasn't using his full power at all when he came up against Cell - he instead uses his full force when he left, rendering the landscape to rubble. One wonders why he didn't use that kind of force on him - he would have probably killed him. Even when Kiririn and his dad come to help, he still thinks he could not beat him, and feels tormented by his enemy’s overconfidence. Trunks wonders where Cell got all his power from, and if he wants to hold a tournament, who would he fight. He thinks it wouldn't be Trunks as he couldn't beat him, so the whole issue of who he would fight drives him to consider opponents.

As if fans haven't noticed, Trunks is a character that never gives up, like Naruto. He plans on going into the Room of Spirit and Time to continue his training, thinking this will be the only way he can beat Cell.

By the second episode, Cell is preparing the arena for the martial arts tournament, creating stone slabs out of thin air and mounting them on the ground. In the meantime, Cell causes havoc for the TV studio he comes to announce that he is letting the humans live for now, he doesn't need their energy to live. Nobody will believe it, but we are now at the sixth season of Dragon Ball Z, and it feels as though we have covered a lot of ground with all the characters we have encountered along the way. You can see where other later anime series have got their ideas from. For example, the Room of Spirit and Time is similar to the training ground former Captain Urahara uses with Ichigo in Bleach, and Trunks's attitude and personality is similar to that of Sasuke Uchiha in Naruto.

Dragon Ball Z has fun characters and obvious bad ones, but a strong story that can be seen as unusual for European animation fans.

Bonus Material: None.

Verdict: Dragon Ball Z is a tireless classic we have truly adopted!
