New prison guard on the block, Yolkov was captured and held prisoner by the inmates of a Russian prison. Zhirov, a muscular, handsome inmate feared by all the others protected him, and now that he is safe, he wants to give him something back as a reward for what he did. He didn't have to help him, and he wonders what made him help someone like him out, who is considered an enemy to the prisoners.
Yolkov feels that he needs to repay his kindness as though it is a debt, but other than help him out or talk to him when he feels lonely, he doesn't know what he can give him - until he lets his real feelings out for the man who risked all to keep him safe. Yolkov thinks that Zhirov has been sent from above to help him out in times of trouble as no one in their right mind would help out a new prison guard.
Just as in the Maelstrom series, here are two unlikely people from opposite sides of the prison system coming together to form a relationship of sensual proportions. The only difference is Yolkov is willing to let Zhirov bed him. Yolkov is also tired of being kept a prisoner indoors, and would like nothing more than to spend his time outdoors where he can enjoy some kind of fresh air, even if it he has to spend his time around toxic waste He asks the warden and she lets him only if he accompanies hard-line criminal, Zhirov as well.
Cold Beautiful is a one-shot story that deals with the troubles one man faces in a prison colony, but he is not exactly alone with Zhirov to be his bodyguard and lover. I liked the sensual spark of love that starts out as Zhirov initially just protecting him.
Cold Beautiful can be purchased at all good online retailers such as Kindle USA, Kindle Canada, Kindle UK, Kindle Germany, Kindle Spain, Kindle France, Kindle Italy, or Kindle Japan. Nook, Sony, Kobo, iTunes, and Smashwords.
Verdict: Original and engaging as well as sensual - this is a different yaoi and one to watch out for from the writer who brought us Maelstrom.
