When we have Naruto, One Piece and Bleach why would we need another one?
That is a bold statement to make and we can think in a narrow-minded way about anime when we think we have the best there is.

There are plenty of unlikely heroes in anime, but there is something about One Punch Man that makes viewers want to find out more about its main character. Saitama was once a hero in training but after so long as the strongest hero who can defeat his enemies with one punch, his life has become boring.

I saw the anime as a mickey take of the classic superhero story as here we have a man who is like any other with the same emotions yet with one difference, he has the capability to be more. Unlike in the classic Marvel or DC universes, he isn't recognised for his efforts to protect the world.

The series likes to show us how Saitama copes with being in the real world; his hopes desires and yearns to have real human friendships but gets nothing. His only friend is Geno's, his apprentice who is a cyborg with superpowers who learns from him in the hope of being as good a fighter as he.

Saitama and Geno's go through their own battles fighting alien enemies and for once you might see that our protagonists can't handle that they pile through their opponents with little effort until one emerges that can give them the sort of fight they have waited for. Saitama doesn't get much out of being a hero and being the only one who can prevent the earth's destruction. Like Edward Elric, he is powerful yet doubts his power, feeling empty inside with the only support of one person, his apprentice.

Saitama thinks there must be more to life than his lonely existence. So far it would be easy to think of this as a dull anime, though with our protagonist questioning his life, we find he is a normal guy with a superpower he doesn't understand. To be honest, the first thing viewers will point out is his loneliness and the humour that makes the series a popular one.

One Punch Man's lead character looks strange for a reason; those big eyes enable his many expressions of how dull and repetitive his life is. In contrast to other superhero animations, Saitama wonders why he fights the enemies who come through, you wouldn't find Wolverine bored with beating-up villains. One-Punch Man is a shonen anime but that doesn't stop us girls giving it our time as it has plenty to interest us.

Bonus Material: 6 OVAs, textless opening and closing songs and cast and crew interviews.

Summary: This is a wonderful alternative look at the superhero ideal with much fun and action to enjoy!
