Just as DC Comics had the privileged Bruce Wayne undergo a transformation into the legendary dark knight, Batman, Jonathan Joestar is heir to the famed Joestar family, when the father of the Brando family saves his father's life, he forever owes him a debt. This debt is paid in full when his son, Dio asks to be taken in by their family after his father's death.
Jonathan's father thinks he has done a good deed until Jonathan sees what kind of man Dio is- he's not interested in his father's kindness, he wants to kill off the family and take the Joestar estate for himself. The tricky part for Jonathan is getting his father to see sense before it's too late. I heard about the anime and got the manga, an impressive hardback with some of the most flamboyant artwork I had ever seen. Set in a Victorian past at first, later it is set in more modern times where the outfits get more outrageous.
Dio from the beginning seems to have the upper hand as soon as he makes his dramatic entrance on the Joestar estate, kicking Jonathan's dog, beating him to a pulp during their boxing match and molesting his girlfriend. All the way through Dio seems to observe and predict his movements, giving him something of a surreal godlike image even though by this time we already know he's the bad guy.
Both characters in the anime are beefy, muscular types, but Dio always refers to Jonathan as being spoiled or pampered as he didn't come from the slums as he did. Jonathan, however, does have guts and determination, which he will need if he can take Dio down along with the evil plot he has to use the mask.
As a series, it is dramatic, action-filled, fun and at the same time has plenty of dark and disturbing moments I didn't expect from it as everyone talks pretty well to do (other than the street hoodlums) The English dubbed version does seem a bit over the top and I thought this would put me off at first, yet I found myself wrapped up in the story, plot and characters that I excused it. There are some nail-biting fight scenes, the best ones between Dio and Jonathan and I can say without a doubt that this is a worthy anime based on the original manga.
Bonus Material:

Summary: This is the quintessential JoJo's Bizarre Adventure set that deserved to be made for the serious anime viewer.
