Feel-good anime series is pretty hard to find, though this shojo series is popular for several reasons; the way its heroine, Tohru is portrayed, the way she helps the Sohma family cope with their turbulent life and how we get to really know each character.
Tohru is the shining light in their lives, helping them come to terms with who they are and how to live with a normal human who knows their family secret. And it's not a case of one character being the main focus of the series carrying it to its conclusion, we want to know all about the Sohma family, and do, which makes it a great family show as well as a comedy with some tragedy to bear in mind. It is more of a case of how we as viewers see how badly the Sohma's have coped before Tohru came along.
Each member of the Sohma's thought they might be judged for how they dealt with what happened to them, but Tohru doesn't have a judgemental bone in her body, she's been taken in by the family, is happy to help them and feels like a part of their family, especially Kyo and Yuki who have their own fanbase.
One of the main reasons for its popularity is how each character has grown through the series and how interesting they are.
Bonus Material: Fruits Basket: Interview with Cast & Crew, Inside the Episode, Episode 18 Commentary, Textless Songs
Summary: Tohru is one of the best heroines out there with a heart of gold and makes Fruits Basket a winner with shojo audiences countrywide!
