In the previous series of Dragon Ball, Goku had fiercely battled Piccolo, defeating him. Everyone is celebrating this death, the fact that their city is safe once more, Goku is able to recover in an air car while his friend, Tenshinhan gets patched up. While the celebration caries on there is one thing our hero should bear in mind; Piccolo's last words - that his child should avenge his death.
Despite their good fortune at Goku destroying Piccolo, there have been casualties; the deaths of the Turtle Hermit, Chaozu and Shen Long. The problem of a gigantic egg that has flowed down stream through the village has to be sorted out and when it cracks it is very obvious who is inside. For Goku, being a hero looks like fun until he notices what it is like to be in the spotlight of the local press and paparazzi. The endless interviews and photo opportunities start to get annoying if he didn't try to escape altogether. Most celebrities wish they could escape on a cloud, and if he wants to see Fortune Teller Baba, it's what he has to do.

Once he gets his staff back (without the mop head on it) he intends to bring back his friends, though there is someone he has to take care of too - Piccolo's son. As we have seen in future series, Goku has to go through many trials and bouts of training to perfect his combat powers. He is lucky he has so many friends backing him all the way; even if they are goofy. While Goku is busy trying to resurrect his pals, through some of the episodes, Piccolo Jr is busy causing havoc wherever he goes, burning the kami home, destroying land and stealing huge fish. For Goku to revive his friends; Shen Long being one of them, he also has to understand some of the mystery surrounding the Dragon Balls, even going so far as to listen to the one who created them and how he hoped that by creating them humans would find courage and hope, yet none used them for that purpose. As an alien he discovered, much to his disappointment that all humans who had possessed them were capable of murder and greed. Only Goku was an exception and since then he has intrigued him.

Dragon Ball Collection 5 is a trail through the finer moments we missed out on in Dragon Ball Z. Goku is the main draw to fans, but if you look beyond, the rest of the characters are just as important as they are meaningful. This is the Piccolo Jr Saga Part 1 of Dragon Ball where Goku has to show how disciplined he has become after all the training he has got. He has come to know the meaning of how precious life is unlike his alien counterparts, and this collection is the sort that younger children will warm to instantly, also we can't forget that if it weren't for Dragon Ball, we wouldn't have anime in the UK.
