Back in 2008, Temari Matsumoto and Tomo Takabayashi's Kyo Kara MAOH! has its first outing in paperback with the then-popular publisher, Tokyopop. This manga was described as a "gender-bending" high school demon love story," but not seen as steamy or adult enough to be put on their yaoi themed Blu imprint.

Even though Kyo Kara MAOH! was a hit anime series with Yuri Shibuya as a high school kid who gets flushed down a toilet which leads into another world where he is the new king of the Mazoku, who are demons who keep humans as their slaves, which is weird as Yuri is a human.

From the start, Yuri has to be saved from the clutches of Sir Adalbert by Lord Weller who has Yuri whisked off to safety by a Kohi skeleton. Sir Adalbert can't be trusted around their new MAOH, he could have killed him or turned him against his family. Talking of family, Yuri is introduced to the rest of the Mazoku, who turn out to be colourful characters.
