Most girls dream of becoming an idol in Japan, but very few realize that dream in reality, but Sakura Minamoto wants that dream to come true, yet she doesn't know how it will happen. One night, her dreams are shattered when she is caught up in a car accident and dies, but is given hope by a man who seems to rescue her from her fate.

Koutaro Tatsumi is her rescuer who tells her she has actually died but wants to make her dream come true of being an idol. Here she realises that she isn't alone. Koutaro has found a bunch of girls who have also died and decides to form an idol group with Koutaro serving as their manager! And their name, Francouchou!

Sometimes the peculiar aspects of Japanese culture can come in handy to create a comedic show that pokes fun at idol anime and the idea of cute girls in a band looking pretty but seem like they can't really play instruments, wearing cosplay and singing their hearts out.

Here seven girls who have previously lost their lives in different circumstances are brought together as zombies to form a band and save Saga Prefecture, but instead of it being a horror a la Tokyo Ghoul, it becomes more of a comedy horror with Kotaro Tatsumi as their manager and saviour.

Franchoucou has to be made a hit sensation by the girls in it rather than by Kotaro managing them; they are the main focus of the story and their lives before the accidents are of interest.

All the girls are from different eras and periods from Japanese history, which makes the story funnier to watch than you might think. It is after the first episode when you ponder whether or not to watch the rest of the first disc. This time I realised it wasn't the usual idol anime series and the characters have more to their personalities than you first thought

Zombieland Saga has the potential to be thought of as more than an idol anime poking fun at the idol genre, it has a good story, strong cast and lots to keep you waiting right to the end.

Bonus Material: None.

Summary: Unlike most idol anime, this has plenty of fun reasons to watch it - the horror, the comedy and the tragedy - its all here!
