This is an early Halloween novel with a nice twist. On Halloween night Ryan and Dot plan to go out dressed up like ghosts for trick or treat, but what their parents don't know is they want to know what's inside the ghost tower they have in their town.

Borrowing a friends drone, they send it up the tower to see what may be lurking around every corner, expecting to find a ghost or two. When they discover their local council is having it knocked down they think it may be their last time to see if there really is a ghost. What surprises them is that the drone doesn't pick up any sign of ghosts but there are quite a few bats hanging around on the roof.

The two of them find out these are not just any bats, Ryan looks into their genus and finds they are rare greater horseshoe bats and if they tell the council about it they can't have the place demolished.

As this is about spooks and bats in the community, it is also about conserving rare species and teaching young readers that some species are under threat if not helped. The Ghost Tower isn't just any ghost story for that special time of year, it's more than that. It has heart and a serious message about the real world we live in. It also has a two-page Fantastic Bats Facts info sheet based on info from the Bat conservation trust.
