YAOI REVIEW: VAMPIRE RENT BOY #3 - ALL ABOUT ADAM BY DL WARNER
Vampire Rent Boy #3 - All About Adam

Publisher: Sybaritic Press
Pages:30

Synopsis: The memories of where Vampire Tristan met the sexy and mysterious Adam comes back to him at the most inconvenient moment – while he's with the lusty Police Detective who is still blind to his secrets. When they finally meet, Tristan not only finds out about Adam's strange and sometimes mystical past, he learns about the horrible fate his family had in mind for him when he was an innocent human. There is no time for regret with romance in the air. Tristan and Adam finally celebrate the miraculous events that brought them back together. Does this mean real happiness for Tristan? Or will an accident with the thorn from a rose ignite his blood lust and destroy his last chance at a life-long companion?
Review: As Tristan has a live in lover, Frank, who keeps him happy when Adam is out of the way being a detective. He’s pretty sure Adam won’t like the idea of having to share him when he knows he has the ideals of once being a human, and I suppose that if the roles were reversed, Tristan wouldn’t like it either. D.L. Warner reminds us that in many real-life gay relationships, men can have more than one lover, and as long as the couple don’t have a jealous bone in their bodies, their relationship can go smoothly. In Tristan’s case, he’s not sure what would happen if he introduced Frank to Adam.
You might think why is it that Tristan is fooling around with other guys when he seems so happy with Adam, but one thing is for sure, he seems to enjoy sex with handsome men, and has a sex drive that could probably be too demanding for most. Strangely enough, the time he spends with Frank watching old movies brings back memories of the good times he spent with Adam, and how he was brought back to him; the most amazing thing is that his memory is of two hundred years ago.
Tristan is happy that he’s got back with Adam, but he doesn’t want to let his friends down in the process of being with his true love again. His friends are concerned, Kevin thinks he might be pushed to one side, and Keiko needs to be told about Adam coming back, but Tristan tries to assure Kevin he won’t neglect his friendship, and that it’s possible he’s going to have a hard time getting some alone time with Keiko as her friend is always hanging around (and he doesn’t trust her).
Readers can see that Adam means a lot to Tristan as he’s had problems of his own to deal with. He has been having blackouts and thinks it’s from him not drinking enough blood. As he’s fed more often, he seems to be keeping it in check and hopes he doesn’t feel weak again. When they meet again, Adam reminds him of the night Tristan became his lover. One night Tristan had been put into an auction and powerful men were prepared to pay a great deal of money to buy him. This idea reminded me a lot of Hitoyo Shinozaki’s Okane ga Nai (No Money) where the poor Yukiya Ayase is sold at an auction to pay for his cousin’s debts. Warner makes it obvious that Tristan and Adam are made for each other, and Tristan has waited a long time to be back with his lover once more.
Vampire Rent Boy #3: All About Adam starts out showing Tristan can pretend that he’s having a good time with other men, Frank being one of them, and Kevin being another, but he can’t get away from the realisation he belongs with Adam, as no other man alive matches the qualities needed to be his long-time lover. Warner has kept us interested from the first novel in the series through to the second, now we find out the truth of how they got together in the first place and some revealing insights into their relationship that readers might find very endearing.
Volume #3 ends with a sneak peek at what will happen in Vampire Rent Boy #4: Fifty Shades of Black and Blue and a brief look inside D.L.Warners other yaoi novel, Ensnared: Volume: 1 and a short catalogue of titles by Sybaritic Press.
Summary: Tristan is all set to spend his life with Adam as he’s the only man for him, but his chances of freedom might be cut short due to one man who could spoil their plans. The story is enjoyable, has periods of humour in it, lots of sensuality and steamy sex, but also shows us that the warmth of human kindness can rub off on vampires as well.
