When Yugi Mutou found a puzzle that dated from the Ancient Egyptians, he solved it and was granted the gaming power of a god so that whenever he was challenged to a duel, he could use his super gaming alter-ego to battle against the most powerful and dangerous opponents all while trying to protect his friends, but with this latest series of duels to come, will he succeed?
Those Yugi thought had great power have threatened his friends and family and in the conclusion to the Battle City Finals, Yugi and his fellow players have been transported to Kaiba's private island, a virtual world where they will compete against the five Kaiba Corp owners in a desperate bid to win and entrap Yugi and his friends so they can leave.
In Yu-Gi-Oh! Enter the Shadow Realm, Yugi has to enter Kaiba Corp to pit his wits and card gaming skills against Marek whose intentions are to dominate the gaming world and get his hands on the power of the Pharaoh. Makura has already lost a shadow game and the list of the fallen has grown, as Marek's power grows. Yugi knows Marek must be stopped, but he still thinks about Mai being trapped in the shadow realm.
Almost everyone in this anime has had problems with other duellers, Yugi wants to look after his friends and family, in a previous episode, he had to deal with someone hurting his grandfather, and now he can't afford to lose a shadow game as his friend's lives are at stake. However, those who have duelled with Yugi have come a cropper against his deadly duelling prowess. They are so sure they will win against Yugi as he looks like a kid, but they always underestimate his skill with the cards he picks to fight with. Yugi and his friends have feeling around their new jungle scape and couldn't feel more out of place with their new environment, and more so now that they are told there are to be new duelling rules that could change everything.
When each dueller announces each card, they each have points for stamina and strength and dramatically the image on the card comes to life ready to fight for their master. As a way of tormenting their guests, Kaiba Corp's decide to use Gansley to fight Yugi first, thinking he is much weaker even though he has the reputation for being a top player. Gansley has no idea of his power though when he cries "Yu-Gi-Oh!" the game is set and he is very serious. Gansley has a lot of powerful cards and a dangerous Deck Master, though Yugi lucked-out by choosing a Deck Master who didn't look like he had either stamina or strength, though with cards like "Obnoxious Celtic Guardian there may be a chance Yugi might not lose.
As we all know, Yu-Gi-Oh! is a manga and anime series like Naruto and could go on forever as it has a great deal of appeal to fans of fantasy adventure and gaming series.
Bonus Material: Clean Opening and Closing Animation and Trailers for other anime series.
Verdict: It may have been popular over a decade ago, but the urge to duel hasn't gone away - Yu-Gi-Oh! is still as strong as ever!
