A mysterious "man-lady" gets used as fish bait to land a big one in the latest movie. He might seem like a fun guy who can change his face into the other people he's met before just by eating one of the special fruits Luffy is so fond of. Everything is going so well and they are all getting friendly with him when Vivi recognises him as Bon Clay, one of Crocodile's evil henchmen.
Crocodile is responsible for having Dance Powder stolen and brought to Alabasta's port town of Nanohana. In effect, by stealing the powder, he stole rain from neighbouring countries by taking it and using it for his own ends. Since those who possessed it had caused quarrels with these countries the government banned its use, but that hasn't stopped Crocodile from making a hefty amount of cash from it. Unfortunately, for the King of Alabasta, everyone would think he had something to do with the stolen powder, yet he could be innocent as far as Vivi's concerned. Vivi also thinks that Bon Clay could be the man who posed as the king in order to frame him, but she can't prove it.
One Piece: Episode of Alabasta: The Pirates and the Princess of the Desert this time concentrates on Vivi who wants to help her father, the king rid the city of Crocodile and his men, and reinstate the king as trusted ruler. There is only one way she can help him and that is to bring her pirates along. The thing is, wherever they go, water is in short supply. The desert is so dry it looks like water has been gone for a long while. Luffy and co. have a hard time getting to Alabasta, wading through sandstorms, lack of water, birds stealing their food, but riding on a giant crab gives them a little rest on their journey.
Luffy has met some really bad guys in his time as a straw hat pirate leader, but Crocodile is a strange one as he seems to be made entirely of sand (which reminds me of Sandman from the Spiderman movies) Crocodile can dodge any move Luffy throws at him and in Luffy's own words: "I can't hit him at all - he's too sandy!" Crocodile also manipulates sand to use in special power moves like Desert Sparda and Desert Girasole. While Luffy has to fight him, his friends are busy escaping on the crab who isn't travelling as fast as they would like until Vivi shows off her boobs and influences the crab's "Pervert Power!"
The basic story is of a pirate boss's attempt to take over a kingdom as it ruler after convincing the people he is their saviour by stealing the rain and bringing it to them after a long drought. Crocodile's conniving ways are to be thwarted by Luffy and his trustee crew, but there is the problem of each fight they get into. Saionji has to battle the shape-shifting Bon Clay. His constant changing into Nami distracts him enough so that Clay gets the upper hand with his special move "Cross-Dresser Kenpo."
As most of the story has been discussed, let's get onto the animation. One part of the animation that is interesting is the way the characters will fight and right at the end, when one of them has unleashed a power move, the animation stops then starts again to show the move's power. Colourful, fun and with lots of fighting, this movie his the ability to be one of the finest I've seen.
