Inventive is what I would call Peter's new novel, recommended for reading age 8 and interest age 8+. I found it a coming of age story with a subtle twist. Derys thinks she is alone, stuck with doing chores and keeping watch alone, but something else is keeping watch over her well-being and that of her parents.
Featherlight is a gripping tale of a young girls struggle with having to become an adult for one day and the stress that comes with the responsibility. The difference being that Derys has a guardian angel in a most unlikely form. I liked the way Derys copes with being in an adult role, her thoughts and feelings of how the sudden change affects her.
Known for his Cogheart debut novel series, Peter has since been nominated for several awards, the Waterstones Children's Book Prize, the Branford Boase Award and the Carnegie Medal. Here he has cemented his illustrious career as a successful children's author.
