Carlos's life goes from bad to worse when a man hunts down and drags him away from his house taking him to the Amazon rainforest.
He has no idea why he's been taken hostage, but he soon finds it's to do with his mother. Every day she protects the rainforests as a Special Forces member of IBAMA, Brazil's environment agency.
This time, rather than the rainforests, it's Carlos who needs saving. His mother is seen as a busybody who is interfering in things she doesn't understand. The truth is there are people who destroy the rainforests for profit and want to get the point across they need her to stop, or they will take drastic measures. From the start Steve takes us through Carlos's journey from home to the Amazon, the action never stops, the feeling of helplessness and the real fear that Carlos or his mother could lose their life feels very real. The only criticism I could give for this is that it needed to be longer so I could extend the enjoyment it gave me to read such a thrilling story.
