Who doesn't want an erotic BDSM fantasy with a romantic twist?

King Caine and his councillor, Randell want to collect a great debt from the mortal king who rules above, but when Caine spots the knight Jonah he finds him the most attractive man out there as his innocence too shines bright, but he also has something else desirable both the king and his councillor want - he is immediately taken down to the the world of Darkhelm where he allows them to do what they want to him.

This story is told from the demon king's point of view with the heavenly gods above them as the villains throwing rocks down to the mortal villagers. The thought that their own men could be killed at any time after they rained down on them hurt him deeply, but it was what the rocks did to the villagers and his men that caused so much pain. When the king comes to ask a favour of the demon king, he sends his demon men to help rid them of the dangerous stones, but at a price - the mortal king would have to pay at some point of his choosing. The mortal king accepts it signing the contract set out for him. King Caine delights in the fact such a proud king has to beg at his feet, but his boon comes in a form he would never imagine.

Among all the other enemies around the demon king Caine there is one who, though he is afraid tries not to show it - Jonah of Aquiel. He is obedient and courteous enough, which is what, makes him think Jonah could be a plant. But what a handsome plant he is, one he thinks would be a great addition to the court for his irresistible beauty alone. They also see Jonah as possible payment for the help the demon king gave them, and as such, Randell asks if Jonah might be shared with him. It might seem that he has been given to them, yet they have to find him later as he has been taken on board a ship destined for choppy waters, and there is another problem, as a knight who joins Helder's Order has to take a vow of chastity, one that has him wearing a ring around his organ to prevent him from becoming aroused enough to have the necessary erotic thoughts to want to orgasm. Caine and Randell are quite taken by the knight, and as Caine doesn't see him as an enemy, he wants nothing more than to coerce him into a sexual and loving relationship with him. Caine's main worry is that he might not fall for him, or after the training, grow to hate him for his methods. It is obvious that Caine, though he is a dark demon king he has already fallen for the handsome knight.

For once, readers will notice that Yamila's character of Caine isn't purely gay, he is bisexual as he also has sexual relations with a demoness. Most of her characters before this story are exclusively gay or start out straight and become gay. This is different and as they say a change is as good as a rest, even for writers. In Vanquished Goddess, the erotic and lustful half-goddess Sarina has her own story where is a purely heterosexual side to the normally gay/bisexual Vanquished series and should be enjoyed with this one.

With a cover by Archie the Red Cat which shows the horned demon king Caine straddling a rather handsome and willing Jonah. As alluring as this is, it is the story that whets the appetite for further additions to the Vanquished series; Vanquished Thief, Vanquished Enemy, Vanquished Prince and Vanquished Goddess. For those who are used to Yaoi Press’s manga series, this is a text based story with a cover illustration as opposed to a graphic novel. It’s just as enjoyable and will have you desperate to catch up with the new Vanquished stories.

Verdict: Hot and steamy from the outset - this is for the serious yaoi enthusiast.
