SCI-FI BOOK REVIEW: ZERO BOMB BY MT HILL
Zero Bomb
Author: M.T. Hill

It's a new year and time for reading through a novel I could really criticise, or at least that is what I thought on first look. Zero Bomb is Philip K. Dick Award-nominated author MT Hill's mysterious and yet strangely prophetic novel for this year. Its themes of sci-fi, downtrodden people in a doom-laden future where machines can take over and humans are left jobless is an all too real scenario.

In Zero Bomb, Remi tries to find the daughter he thought was dead; here Patrick Edwards has Cale going on a journey to find his son, Bowden who is dying. The press release had this down as a science fiction novel, but I think it is much more than that. The way it is written made me think of the hard sci-fi I have read before.

So the first two chapters serve as an introduction while the third one has Digby telling his friends of his early studying time and mind mapping. Digby and his dear friend Clara, a fellow scientist at the institute bounce around theories until they start to sound truly absurd. For Digby, though nothing can change his mind; he still wants to time travel to the dim and distant past, bit rather than for science's sake, Digby wants to go back to the eighties to watch Back to the Future when it first got released to the masses. You would think this idea was below a scientist but Digby is seen as much less than eminent by his peers.

For those who like online role-playing games in an anime setting, this has a lot to offer in terms of setting, character and plot. Even though I didn't see the first season I can tell this has the potential to be a fan favourite which will be talked about at conventions for months to come.
