Finding a Regalia is what minor god Yato needs right now as his last one quit in despair. Being on Earth isn't easy either as he's in Japan, the Land of the Rising Sun and assigned the task of protecting humans from the evil Phantoms that lurk around. For all his skills as a minor god, he should be popular, but he's no shrine, no Regalia and no followers. Spray painting an advert onto a wall, he hopes he can get the followers he needs and a shrine, as there isn't much he can do without them - and a Regalia!
Yato thinks his Regalialess life is set to only get worse until a school girl, Hiyori stops him from getting hit by a bus when he is sent out to rescue a cat. When it's Hiyori who gets injured, he can't help but make sure she's okay once she is admitted to hospital, but Hiyori has undergone a serious change.
This story reminds me of Bleach in many ways where shinigami constantly battle against evil human-eating Hollows. In Noragami it is the gods who use their Regalias to fight the Phantoms, incarnations of emotional energy that possess others. As Hiyori is neither totally in the near shore (living) or the far shore (dead), she is on the cusp and her far shore side comes out at times complete with a cute, pink tail showing that she is part Phantom (but not in a bad way.)
For those who enjoyed watching other anime series such as Blue Exorcist or Soul Eater, this has equal interest for those who like to see action and humour in all the right places. Yato is an endearing character who you don't get tired of seeing as he is many facets to his personality (and there's no chance he will stay Regailaless for long).
Bonus Material: Episode 6 Audio Commentary, Episode 9 Audio Commentary, Textless Closing Song, US Trailer, Trailers,
Verdict: Unique and fun, Noragami is worth taking a look at for the characters and story.
